Watch our Quip basics and onboarding video
Are you new to Quip? Or perhaps you signed up a while ago, but you've had some questions that are holding you back? Then you're in luck, because we just hosted a webinar that covers everything you need to know to get started with Quip.
“Why are you telling me all these great things about a webinar that already happened?” you might be asking. Never fear: We recorded it, so you can watch the video whenever you want.
We know you're busy, so we crammed everything you need into a presentation and Q&A session that take up less than an hour:
- The best ways to set Quip up for your team
- How to get your team using Quip regularly
- Creating and sharing living documents
- How Quip can help your team rely less on email and meetings
- Keeping your work and team organized with folders
- Building out team and project spaces
Bonus info
We answered the top questions at the end of the recording, but here are some great additional questions we got from attendees:
Q: How is Quip different from products like Google Docs, Microsoft Office, and Slack?
A: With Quip, your work and communication are in the same place. Each document and spreadsheet has its own document sidebar where you can talk to your coworkers as the work evolves. You don't need to rely on email attachments, or links to documents in chat applications. Nor do you need to go looking for conversations, decisions, or context in chat rooms or email threads — it's all right there next to your work. Plus, Quip has powerful organization capabilities, and works really well on your mobile devices. For more, check out this blog post from our co-founder Bret Taylor.
Q: Can I use Quip with people outside of my organization?
A: Yes! You can add external people to documents by using their email address, which gives them full collaborative access to the doc. You can also share folders with external people, have 1:1 chats with them, or add them to chat rooms. Anytime an external person has collaborative access to a document, folder, or chat (meaning they can add things and make changes), you’ll see a red “External” badge. If you want to give more broad external access to a document you can use a shareable link, and set various levels of permissions.
Q: What's the best way to manage shared folders in Quip?
A: The best place to start is by giving every team in your organization a group folder. Here they can have a single place to store, share, and collaborate on their work. Within each group folder, it's really up to each team, but on the Marketing team at Quip, we have a “Marketing” group folder, which then contains several shared folders for projects, launches, campaigns, blog drafts, and so on. You can learn more in the Quip Guide.
Q: Does Quip do versioning? Can I access previous versions?
A: Because Quip documents are stored in the cloud, there's only one version that constantly evolves as you and your team make edits. The document sidebar tracks every change your document or spreadsheet has gone through, and you can always revert your work to a previous version. For more information on how to do this, visit this Quip Guide article.
